Pyongyang, November 18 (KCNA) -- A joint event took place at the Special Zone for International Tour of Mt. Kumgang on Tuesday to mark the 16th anniversary of the start of tour of Mt. Kumgang. Present there from the DPRK side were Won Tong Yon, vice-chairman of the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, and officials concerned and from the south side were Hyon Jong Un, chairperson of Hyundai Group, and leading officers of Hyundai Group and Hyundai Asan. The participants laid bouquets before the monument to the autograph of leader Kim Jong Il and paid tribute to him. Jo Kon Sik, manager of the Stock Company of Hyundai Asan, and Hwang Ho Yong, director of the Guidance Bureau for the Special Zone for International Tour of Mt. Kumgang, made speeches. The speakers recalled that Kim Jong Il paved the way for south Koreans to tour Mt. Kumgang, adding that as a result, tour boat Kumgang anchored at Jangjon Port at Mt. Kumgang resort for the first time on Nov. 18, Juche 87 (1998), after crossing the extension of the Military Demarcation Line in the East Sea of Korea. They also referred to the facts that since then many south Koreans of all social standings toured Mt. Kumgang and that Kim Jong Il showed particular loving care for the family of Hyundai Group. Marshal Kim Jong Un is paying deep attention to Hyundai Group and the tour of Mt. Kumgang, they said, calling upon the north and the south to pool their efforts to ensure that the tour of Mt. Kumgang resumed as soon as possible. The participants jointly planted trees on that occasion and those concerned of the Hyundai side went round facilities at Mt. Kumgang resort. |
