In this regard, Ri Chol Un, deputy secretary of the DPRK Skating Association, told KCNA that the tournament gave a glimpse of the nation's development of figure skating.

He said:

What is always kept in our memory is the benevolent image of leader Kim Jong Il viewing a demonstration performance of figure skaters in December Juche 100 (2011). At that time he expressed great satisfaction over the performance and gave an important instruction on further developing the local figure skating.

True to his instruction, the figure skaters and their coaches have worked hard to improve the techniques, with their deep yearning for him.

They fully displayed their techniques at the Paektusan Prize International Figure Skating Festival every year to significantly mark the Day of the Shining Star, the birth anniversary of Kim Jong Il.

They also proved successful at the 2012 Figure Skating Tournament for Asian Cup, the figure-skating competition of the International Skating Union World Development Trophy 2014 and the 2014 Figure Skating Tournament for Asian Cup.
