The institute is associated with the feats of the great Generalissimo Kim Jong Il, who in his lifetime worked heart and soul to provide the people with vegetable in all seasons.

In March Juche 100 (2011) he visited the institute and went round its hydroponic greenhouse and solar vinyl greenhouse. He appraised the successes made by it in vegetable research and production and gave an instruction to build one more greenhouse based on ultramodern technology like hydroponic greenhouse in a short period.

Later on he gave precious instructions for extension project of the institute on several occasions and showed his deep care for it until the last moments of his life.

The institute is now in the heyday of development under the guidance of supreme leader Kim Jong Un.

Sok Won Bong, deputy director of the institute, told KCNA:

The modernly-equipped institute carries on research and production at the same time.

It has produced new species of vegetables such as yellow paprika.

Its researchers will breed more nutritious and high-yielding vegetable species, true to the behests of Kim Jong Il.
