Achievements Made in Pomiculture

Pyongyang, December 30 (KCNA) -- The DPRK people have made big strides in the field of pomiculture this year, true to the noble intention of the Workers' Party of Korea to turn the country into a big orchard. A project for updating the Kosan Fruit Farm proceeded rapidly, with creation of 260 hectares of orchard, including 140 hectares of dwarf apple trees, and installation of 354 000 concrete props. A modern wire net factory took its shape at the farm, while a big progress was made in the construction of large fruit storehouse and feed processing mill. The construction of Pukchong Apple Institute drew to near completion and a pig farm with big capacity was built at the Toksong Apple Farm. A signal progress was made in the work to supply various species of fruit saplings. Nearly 60 hectares of orchard appeared at the Jangyon Fruit Farm and 20 hectares of sharp persimmon, 450 hectares of peach and apricot and 32 hectares of new walnut strain were additionally created throughout the country. Onchon, Sariwon and other fruit farms pushed ahead with the construction of reservoirs to protect orchards from damage by drought, flood and rainstorm. Besides, remarkable achievements were made in the work to protect the fruit trees from harmful insects and raise the quality of products. 100-odd agrochemical production bases were built and a method of producing new kinds of efficient insecticides was introduced. |
