North-targeted War Drills Are Factor of Escalating Distrust: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- Some days ago, the spokesman for the Ministry of Defence of south Korea termed the DPRK's call for the stop to all war moves "illogic", asserting that military exercises in south Korea would go on for "defense" as long as its alliance with the U.S. exists. Rodong Sinmun on Friday says in an article in this regard: The south Korean authorities have already revealed their attempt to persistently launch the north-targeted war drills such as Key Resolve, Foal Eagle and Ulji Freedom Guardian in league with foreign forces this year, too. The war drills in south Korea are the main factor of disturbing peace on the Korean peninsula and escalating distrust and confrontation between the north and the south, the article notes, and goes on: The persistent war drills with animosity against the fellow countrymen in the north are reckless acts of going against detente and the improved inter-Korean relations. If the south Korean authorities continue dancing to the tune of the U.S. dreaming of igniting a nuclear war on the Korean peninsula to meet its interests for aggression, in disregard of the fate of the Korean nation, it will bring damage only to the Korean nation. If all war moves including north-targeted war drills end in south Korea, the source of distrust and confrontation between the north and the south will be removed and an important breakthrough for improving the relations be made. As a result, great advance will be made in the struggle of Koreans for the great national unity, peace and reunification. If the south Korean authorities truly want dialogue between the north and the south and the improved inter-Korean relations, they should show their sincerity by practical act of totally discontinuing north-targeted war drills, to begin with. |
