The Army let the 3rd and 6th Corps and other units stage war drills, claiming that they have greeted the new year with "gun report and battle cry." The Navy also staged a war drill with warships involved. The Air Force is also keen on reckless war frenzy.

Commenting on this, Minju Joson Friday says:

The whole Korean nation is turning out in the struggle to join efforts to open up a broad avenue to independent reunification but the south Korean military is spoiling such an atmosphere through the above-said war drills. These are dangerous acts which can be made only by the traitors, who do not desire the reconciliation and unity with the north but pursue confrontation with the fellow countrymen in the north.

It is none other than the south Korean military which tried desperately to stand against the trend of the times by staging the north-targeted war drills in conspiracy with the U.S. even in the June 15 era of reunification when the reconciliation and unity between the north and the south were promoted to win the admiration of the world.

What merits a more serious attention is the fact that the south Korean chief executive, too, has been conniving at such war drills. It is clear that if she can not put the military under her control, it is impossible to expect dialogue and contact between the north and the south, and the horrible danger of a nuclear war will increase.

The south Korean authorities had better give a clear answer to whether they want dialogue or war drills.
