It was attended by So Chung On, director of the Department for International Affairs and Reunification of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), Ri Tong Je, chairman of the Association of Koreans in Japan for Peaceful Reunification, and its officers and members and officials in charge of international affairs and reunification of the Kanto area headquarters and organizations of Chongryon.

The meeting discussed the measures to actively contribute to glorifying this year marking the 70th anniversary of national liberation as a year of great turn for opening up a broad avenue to independent reunification, true to the New Year address of Kim Jong Un.

The meeting underlined the need to proactively and efficiently conduct information services for removing the danger of war, easing tension and creating a peaceful climate on the Korean peninsula, and opening up a broad avenue to independent reunification by implementing the July 4 joint statement and the historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.

All Koreans in the north and the south and abroad should get firmly united under the June 15 banner this year marking the 15th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration and turn out as one in a nationwide movement to reunify the country, it noted.

It stressed the need to decisively strengthen the Association of Koreans in Japan for Peaceful Reunification this year marking the 60th anniversary of Chongryon and the 25th anniversary of the association and enhance the function and role of the association.
