Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- The Pueblo incident was another biggest shame brought to the U.S. by the Korean people after its defeat in the Korean War (1950-1953). On January 23, 1968, the Korean People's Army (KPA) captured the U.S. armed spy ship Pueblo near Ryo Islet in the territorial waters of the DPRK. The spy ship had already made 17 rounds of espionage voyages against the DPRK as part of preparations for a new war against it. Therefore, the KPA's capture of the U.S. spy ship was a clear manifestation of the DPRK's right to self-defense. But the U.S. branded the DPRK's self-defensive measure as a "violation of international law" and brought the Pueblo incident to the UN Security Council while trying to mislead the public opinion. Not content with this, the U.S. assembled large armed forces in and around the Korean Peninsula to make a reprisal. In the light of the prevailing situation, the DPRK declared its stand that it would react to the U.S. "retaliation" with retaliation and to an all-out war with an all-out war, taking strong countermeasures. The confrontation between the DPRK and the U.S. over the Pueblo incident continued for 11 months, but finally, the latter was obliged to send a letter of apology to the former due to its toughest stand. The ship anchored in the Pothong River curving round the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum serves as a witness telling the doom of aggressors. |
