S. Koreans Call for Lifting "May 24 Steps"

Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- People of all social standings in South Kyongsang Province, south Korea held a press conference at the provincial office on Jan. 22 in demand of the lifting of the steps aimed to escalate confrontation between the north and the south, according to the Yonhap News of south Korea.

At the press conference speakers demanded the "government" lift the "May 24 steps" at once to mend the south-north relations and create an atmosphere of peaceful reunification.

The south and the north should find out the commonness and deepen trust in the spirit of the July 4 joint statement, the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, they noted.

Leaflet scattering against the north is an act of disturbing peace on the Korean peninsula, they said, urging the authorities to take necessary steps to halt leaflet scattering.
