W. A. Duminduwardane, director of the Asian Regional Institute of the Juche Idea who doubles as chairman of the Committee of Self-Reliance Studies in Sri Lanka, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.

The committee decided to hold a meeting, seminar and other colorful political and cultural events praising the revolutionary career and exploits of Kim Jong Il on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
