Among those units is the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Tank Division, which achieved brilliant results in the battle to liberate Seoul City during the war.

When the KPA launched its immediate counterattack against the U.S. imperialists' armed invasion, the tanks of the Division blasted their way into Seoul as an advance party on the order to liberate the city, the stronghold of the enemy, at once.

Its tank-men bravely entered the city through a shower of enemy shells and bullets to raise the DPRK flag over its sky. Then they attacked the Sodaemun Prison in the city to release thousands of patriots and the broadcasting station to announce the liberation of Seoul.

After all, the city of Seoul was liberated only in three days after the outbreak of war.

In the same spirit, those tank-men of the Division, together with infantrymen, broke the enemy's much vaunted "impregnable defences" along the River Kum at a breath to ensure the successful siege of Taejon.

In July 1950 the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly awarded the title of Guards to the Division in recognition of its distinguished feats in the counter-offensive operation of the KPA.

During the war, the Division wiped out myriads of enemy's manpower and destroyed several hundred pieces of combat equipment including guns, tanks and armored vehicles while producing scores of DPRK heroes.

Leader Kim Jong Il started his Songun (military-first) leadership with inspection of this Division on Aug. 25, 1960.

Kim Jong Un, supreme commander of the KPA, visited the unit on Jan. 1, 2012, declaring his steadfast will to accomplish the cause of Songun revolution pioneered and led by the great Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

The Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Tank Division is a pride of the heroic KPA as it has taken the lead in safeguarding the party and leader in the grim annals of the Korean revolution.
