The law, adopted on May 13, Juche 87 (1998) and revised on March 11, 1999, consisted of five chapters and 43 articles.

The newly amended law breaks into five chapters and 64 articles.

The amendment and supplementation of the Invention Law is of great significance in further encouraging invention and facilitating its utilization as required by the IT era.
