Displayed at the venue of the festival were potted immortal flowers cultivated with much care by armed forces organs, ministries, national institutions and many other units, people of different social standings and school youth and children.

On display there were potted flowers of the sun presented by the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, overseas Koreans, staff members of foreign diplomatic missions and missions of international bodies here, foreign friendship and solidarity organizations and foreigners.

The venue of the festival decorated with tens of thousands of potted Kimjongilias in full bloom Koreans and progressives cultivated and rare flowers of other species presented spectacular scenery.

Present at the opening ceremony were Kim Ki Nam, Yang Hyong Sop, Vice-Premier Kim Yong Jin, officials of the organizing committee of the festival, officials of the army and society which displayed the flowers of the sun, overseas compatriots, members of the societies for disseminating and supporting immortal flowers and the chief of the Pyongyang mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front.

Kim Chang Do, chairman of the Korea Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Committee, made an opening address.

He said that the festival was a great political festival demonstrating not only the iron faith and will of the servicepersons and people to hold Kim Jong Il in high esteem as the sun of Juche for all ages and preserve and glorify his revolutionary exploits but boundless reverence of progressive mankind for him.

At the end of the opening ceremony the participants looked round the venue of the festival.
