Opera "The Tale of Chun Hyang" Re-created in DPRK

Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The national opera "The Tale of Chun Hyang" has been re-created by the Phibada Opera Troupe in the DPRK to suit the aesthetic sense of the times. The opera, adapted from a classical work, was created in the 1960s. Its performance began at the Pyongyang Grand Theatre to celebrate the Lunar New Year's Day. The opera, based on a love story of Song Chun Hyang and Ri Mong Ryong, lively represents the noble emotion and lofty ethics of the Korean nation, desirous of justice against the feudal status system. It has prologue, epilogue and 10 scenes. The performance of the recreated opera is now arousing deep interest from among people for skilful combination of stanzaed songs, Korean-style orchestra, folk dances and stage decor. |
