O Jin U, a revolutionary soldier loyal to President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il and prominent activist of the party, state and army, was born on March 8, 1917 and died on February 25, 1995. He grew up to be a revolutionary under the care of the peerlessly great persons of Mt. Paektu and performed distinguished feats in the two revolutionary wars against the Japanese and U.S. imperialists and in the building of revolutionary armed forces and socialist construction.

He upheld the party and the leader and led a shining life with one image, bearing the immutable revolutionary faith. He made distinguished contribution to settling the issue of the succession of leadership decisive of the destiny of the party and the revolution.

Present at the meeting were Choe Ryong Hae, Hyon Yong Chol, Ri Yong Mu, Vice-Premier Kim Yong Jin, officials of the party, armed forces, ministries and national institutions, service personnel of the Korean People's Army, persons of distinguished services, bereaved families of revolutionary martyrs, officials of institutions and industrial establishments and labor innovators in Pyongyang.

Army General Hyon Yong Chol, minister of the People's Armed Forces, said in his memorial address:

O Jin U enjoyed the greatest honor and worthwhile life as a revolutionary soldier thanks to the particular trust and love of the President and Kim Jong Il.

Though he passed away, the strong revolutionary spirit displayed by him and the immortal feats performed by him in upholding the Songun revolutionary cause of Juche in the van with white gem-like loyalty will dynamically encourage the party, the army and the people in their struggle for defending the country and accelerating the final victory of building a thriving nation and always go down in the history of the country.

It is the noble duty and moral obligation of the service personnel and people, descendants of the President and soldiers and disciples of Kim Jong Il to follow the revolutionary spirit of Paektu, the spirit of the blizzards of Paektu displayed by the anti-Japanese revolutionary forerunners and remain true to the Songun revolutionary leadership of Marshal Kim Jong Un.

The speaker calls upon all party members, service personnel and people to uphold the New Year address made by Kim Jong Un, the resolution of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and the joint slogans of the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the WPK, turn out in the general offensive for the dignity and prosperity of the country and thus bring about a new turn in the building of a thriving nation this year.
