Koreans in Los Angeles on Feb. 26 denounced Park Geun Hye for seizing the power illegally.

They urged Park to step down at once as she caused Sewol disaster, disbanded the Unified Progressive Party and shut down a progressive newspaper.

A joint statement in the joint name of Koreans residing in Los Angeles, New York, Washington, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle and Dallas was read out.

Saying that for the past 70 years the people have struggled for democracy in protest against the dictatorial regime, the statement said democracy won through the April 19 uprising, the May 18 resistance and the June resistance has been violated and the dictatorial power is blocking the advance of history.

It called for waging new pro-democracy movement involving all regions, strata, generations and progressive organizations to win genuine democracy, seek the resignation of the regime and achieve the nation's peaceful reunification.

Similar demonstrations also took place in New York and Washington on Feb. 28.
