At the rally speakers said the uprising was an anti-Japanese resistance that demonstrated before the world the Korean nation's will for independence and sovereignty.

The whole nation turned out in the independence movement, they noted.

They called upon people from all walks of life to get united and achieve peaceful reunification by inheriting the spirit of the March 1 popular uprising.

A similar rally took place at Thapgol Park in Seoul on the same day.
