Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- Recorded in the history of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) is a 70-day campaign for socialist construction, which was conducted in Juche 63 (1974) to carry out the six-year (1971-1976) national economic development plan ahead of schedule. At that time, the successful fulfillment of the national economic plan for 1974 was a precondition to pushing ahead with the socialist construction in the country on a higher stage. Under the guidance of the WPK, the 70-day campaign was launched in all sectors of the national economy in late October that year. Detailed measures were taken to give full play to the mental power of all the people out in the campaign and bring it to success. After all, the DPRK witnessed a rapid progress in the socialist economic construction. In the period of the campaign, the speed of 70-day campaign, a new Chollima Speed, was created, whereby more than 1 100 industrial establishments carried out their six-year plans two years earlier. The country's industrial production in 1974 increased by 17.2 percent over the previous year and the gross industrial outputs for November and December went up 48 percent and 52 percent respectively compared with the same period of the previous year. The slogan "Let us produce, study and live like the anti-Japanese guerrillas!", set forth by leader Kim Jong Il in March 1974, served as a mental source encouraging all the people to work great miracles and feats in all spheres of socialist economic construction during the campaign. |
