W. A. Duminduwardane, member of the Board of Directors of the Asian Regional Institute of the Juche Idea and chairman of the Committee of Self-Reliance Studies in Sri Lanka, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.

The preparatory committee decided to hold colorful political and cultural events including a seminar on undying exploits performed by Kim Il Sung for the cause of human independence and meeting on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
