Pyongyang, April 19 (KCNA) -- Fierce anti-"government" actions were staged in south Korea on April 16, the one year since the ferry Sewol disaster. A large-scale memorial rally took place in Seoul to demand the probe into the truth about the disaster. Memorial processions were held, to begin with, by students of Ehwa Woman's University, Yonsei University, Sogang University, Myongji University, Kyunghui University and Sukmyong Woman's University. The rally was attended by civic and public organizations including the All-People Measure Council for Sewol Disaster and the April 16 Family Consultative Council and students and citizens, more than 65 000. At the end of the rally the participants started a demonstration. That day the security authorities cracked down on the demonstration with at least 10 000 policemen of 130 companies of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and other local police agency and more than 300 vehicles involved. Enraged at this, demonstrators made a strong protest. The police walked off demonstrators while spraying tear gas liquid but they staged a sit-in strike and demo at the dawn of the next day, too, not yielding to their suppression. A protest action took place at Phaengmok Port, Jin Island, South Jolla Province, to honor the memory of the victims of the ferry Sewol disaster and demand the probe into the truth about it. Members of civic and public bodies made public a resolution at their memorial service. The deceptive and formal memorial service staged by the puppet chief executive that day touched off bitterer resentment among members of civic organizations. Meanwhile, members of youth organizations staged a protest action against Park Geun Hye. |
