National Calligraphy Festival in DPRK

Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- A national calligraphy festival took place at the Pyongyang International House of Culture on the occasion of the Day of the Sun, the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung (April 15). On display at the festival were more than 250 pieces of calligraphic works written with diverse strokes. In this regard, Ri Kyong Min, an official of the Ministry of Culture, told KCNA: The festival brought together hundreds of applicants including three-year old children. Presented to the festival were such calligraphic works dealing with the spirit of the times as "Revolutionary Spirit of Paektu", "Green Woods", "Gold Mountains", "Gold Sea" and "Hot Wind of Sports". What caught visitors' eyes were calligraphic works written by three-, four- and five-year old children as well as amateurs. Those children included Cha Wi Ju and Kim Jin Gon of the Ponbu Kindergarten in Sinuiju, who displayed calligraphic works "Magnolia" and "The Sun". The festival made its visitors feel the advantages of the education system of the DPRK. |
