Leader Kim Jong Il took a step of organizing a new form of youth brigade in the 1970s and named it Youth Shock Brigade for Speed Campaign.

He made sure that its inaugural ceremony and a torchlight procession were held at Kim Il Sung Square with splendor.

He personally came out to the venue of the events and reposed deep trust in it by saying that it was the might and pride of the Workers' Party of Korea to have such ranks of loyalists as the shock brigade.

Its members have performed miracles and innovations in socialist construction sites under his warm loving care since its birth.

The shock brigade has reached a higher stage in its development thanks to Marshal Kim Jong Un ushering in a new heyday of the youth movement, true to President Kim Il Sung's and Kim Jong Il's idea of attaching importance to the youth.

Kim Jong Un regarded not only the Korean People's Army but also the shock brigade as major forces for ushering in a great heyday of construction and indicated the orientation and way of building up the brigade better and led it to fully demonstrate its might in major construction projects with loving care.

The shock brigade has performed proud feats over the past four decades, true to the noble intention and deep trust of the peerlessly great men of Mt. Paektu.

It has undertaken at least 200 construction projects to perform heroic feats. It was awarded Order of Kim Il Sung and Order of National Flag First Class, more than 20 members received the title of labor hero and more than 130 became recipients of Kim Il Sung Youth Honor Prize.
