Natural Monuments at DPRK's Koryo Songgyungwan Academy

Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- In the compound of the Koryo Songgyungwan Academy in Kaesong City of the DPRK there are Zelkova serrata and Ginkgo biloba which are about 1 000 years old. Kaesong was the capital of Koryo (918-1392), the first unified state in Korea. When visiting the academy in May Juche 81 (1992), President Kim Il Sung said that those trees should be preserved with care as the nation's natural monuments. Zelkova serrata is 25 meters in height, 5.32 meters in girth and 18 meters in diameter of crown while Ginkgo biloba 31 meters, 5.31 meters and 27 meters. |
