Japan Should Opt to Honestly Reflect on Its Past Wrongs: Rodong Sinmun
Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- The Japanese chief executive answered a question put by a broadcasting service recently as to if he was likely to use such words as aggression and apology in a statement to be issued on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Japan's defeat. He jabbered there is no need to issue the statement if such words should be repeated as he had clarified his "view" on carrying forward the successive Cabinets' understanding of history. In other words, he expressed his intention not to say any word about aggression and apology in the statement.

Rodong Sinmun Friday in a commentary says the sophism let loose by the Japanese chief executive was a blatant challenge to the just voices of the world as he brought to light his intention to gloss over the repentance of the past wrongdoings and put spurs to the revival of militarism.

Japan has refused to admit its history of aggression and crimes even now though seven decades have passed since the end of the Second World War, adding to its crimes. the commentary says, adding:

Japan should redress its past crimes for itself, not for others.

Japan' history woven with aggression and crimes can neither be written off no matter how much water may flow under the bridge and no matter how frequently a generation is replaced by another.

In view of either historic review or future orientation, this year offers an important occasion to Japan. Japan should take this year as a good occasion of drawing a serious lesson from its shameful defeat in the past and admitting its inglorious past history at an early date. Should Japan, however, more desperately works to revive militarism and launch reinvasion, it will only invite international isolation, curse and rebuff.

It should not miss the golden chance but opt for sincerely repenting of its crime-woven history.
