Work for Securing Water Makes Rapid Progress

Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- A work for securing irrigation water this year is going full steam ahead in the DPRK. Projects for main water sources including reservoirs and nearly 100 000 auxiliary water sources have already been completed in different parts of the country to secure large quantities of water. Officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and those across the country have taken thoroughgoing measures to step up the work for holding water. Signal successes were reported from South Hwanghae Province. The building of at least 60 000 irrigation facilities has been successfully wound up in the province to secure large quantities of water. Sinchon County installed at least 500 new water pumps to irrigate thousands of hectares. The Samjigang Cooperative Farm in Jaeryong County and many other cooperative farms successfully undertook various projects to secure water. Successes were also reported from South Hamgyong Province. Agricultural workers in Hongwon, Jongphyong, Yonggwang and Toksong counties succeeded in digging hundreds of wells and water holes to obtain a big water source. Chongjin City, Kyongwon and Kyonghung counties in North Hamgyong Province successfully built many large reservoirs and other structures to ensure safe rice cultivation despite any long spell of drought. Signal successes were also reported from Pyongyang City, South Phyongan, North Phyongan, North Hwanghae and other provinces. |
