Pyongyang, May 19 (KCNA) -- Pak Kyong Ho, chairman of the United Confederation of Koreans in Kyrgyzstan, issued a statement on May 14 denouncing the Japanese authorities for their unreasonable and vicious crackdown upon officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). The statement said: The Japanese reactionaries searched the houses of the chairman and a vice chairman of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon in March and hurled police into an operation to arrest officials of Chongryon on May 12. Their action is aimed to fan up anti-DPRK and anti-Chongryon sentiments in Japan's society in a bid to justify the extension of its "independent sanctions" against the DPRK and, furthermore, realize its militarist ambition. The Japanese authorities' brigandish and heinous hostile action against Chongryon and Koreans in Japan is a grave provocation against the DPRK's dignity and sovereignty and sinister intention to stamp out Chongryon. The statement urged them to stop at once the moves to stamp out Chongryon and immediately release the groundlessly arrested officials of Chongryon. |
