Protest Actions Staged in S. Korea

| Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- Over 40 organizations of different circles of south Korea held a press conference outside the puppet Defense Ministry on May 29 in protest against military authorities' talks between the U.S., Japan and south Korea. They included the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification, Solidarity for Progress, Confederation of Trade Unions, Federation of University Students, Buddhist Peace Solidarity and the Missionary Solidarity Council of Christian Society. The organizations recalled at the press conference that the defense ministerial talks would discuss the deployment of THAAD in south Korea, conclusion of a military agreement with Japan, etc. This will lead to the building of a triangular missile shield and the appearance of military alliance, turning south Korea into an advanced base for carrying out the U.S. strategy for laying a siege to Northeast Asia and totally blocking the peace and reunification of the Korean peninsula, they noted. They demanded the authorities oppose the deployment of THAAD, halt the discussion on the conclusion of a military agreement with Japan and opt for peaceful reunification. At the end of the conference the members of the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification staged a demonstration against THAAD deployment and a peace action. Similar conferences and protest actions took place in Pusan, Taegu, Kwangju, North Jolla Province and other areas of south Korea. |
