Han Chun Ik lived in sorrow as member of a stateless nation in an alien land. He could enjoy a worthy life as a human being only under the care of the motherland after its liberation. He bravely fought by joining the People's Army during the hard-fought Fatherland Liberation War.

He was arrested by the enemy while waging a sacred struggle for national reunification but he remained true to the revolutionary faith and obligation for several decades.

Leader Kim Jong Il saw to it that he was brought to the fold of the DPRK and that the title of DPRK Hero and the National Reunification Prize were conferred on him.
