S. Korean Court's Decision Requires Regime to Pay Reparation to Bereaved of Those Involved in Conspiratorial Case
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- The Seoul Central District Court of south Korea made a judgment urging the regime to pay reparation to the bereaved families of those involved in the case of Minjok Ilbo cooked up by the erstwhile Park Chung Hee military fascist dictatorial junta, according to south Korean Yonhap News on June 7.

The Park fascist junta, which seized power through the May 16 military coup, arrested without a warrant and jailed in 1961 the core members of Minjok Ilbo, a progressive paper at that time, including its manager and chief editor, on charges that "the paper carried articles and editorials sympathizing with the activities of the north."

By invoking the "special law on punishing special crimes" cooked up by themselves, the military gangsters sentenced the manager, inspector and manager of tele-communication office of the paper to death, 6 others to 5 to 10 years in prison on October 31 of the same year.

The Committee for Settling the Past History for Truth and Reconciliation in 2006 termed the case a human rights abuse and decided on probing the truth behind it.

Under the strong pressure of the bereaved families, a verdict of not guilty was given to the victims of the case.
