The statement said:

It is a fruition of the reunification policy pursued by Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, that the north-south joint declaration was adopted at the north-south summit on June 15, 2000.

True to the intention of President Kim Il Sung, leader Kim Jong Il devoted himself to realizing the independent and peaceful reunification of the country, the cherished desire of the Korean people.

The spirit of the historic joint declaration is still encouraging the Korean people in their just struggle.

However, unfortunately, the spirit of the declaration is not being applied to the present reality.

It is because the present south Korean regime is totally denying it and pursuing the policy of confrontation with the north.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation.

We call on all the progressive people and organizations to give wide publicity to the historical significance of the declaration and dynamically conduct an international solidarity movement to support the Korean people's struggle for reunification.
