The article said the June 15 joint declaration was the start of the movement which helped the south and the north of Korea remove conflict, achieve reconciliation and advance toward reunification from separation.

In the joint declaration the south and the north agreed to independently solve the issue of national reunification by pooling efforts of the Korean nation responsible for it and this means the driving force for reunification is the Korean nation in the south and the north, the article said, and went on:

It was very important that national reconciliation and cooperation were declared at home and abroad to be a primary task in the reunification issue.

In the joint declaration the south and the north admitted that the south-proposed confederation and the north-proposed low-level federation have commonness, and agreed to orientate reunification toward this.

Exchange and cooperation in different fields together with economic cooperation which deepened confidence between the south and the north formed a foundation which makes the reunification of the country an irretrievable trend.

Even now when the south-north relations faced a total stalemate, we call the June 15 south-north joint declaration a "landmark for reunification" as we witnessed the inter-Korean relations which underwent a great change after the publication of the joint declaration.

The significance of the June 15 joint declaration is that it made the inheritance of the spirit to the October 4 declaration possible.
