Recuperation, Relaxation Systems in DPRK

Pyongyang, June 18 (KCNA) -- Sanatoriums and rest homes in different parts of the DPRK are now crowded with working people enjoying pleasant days. Every year hundreds of thousands of citizens would enjoy themselves at those sanatoriums and rest homes under the recuperation and relaxation systems which include 15-day recuperation, 30-day recuperation, 5-day relaxation and 15-day relaxation at the state expense. The recuperation and relaxation systems were provided by President Kim Il Sung. On December 19, Juche 35 (1946), Kim Il Sung underscored the need to build many rest homes and sanatoriums across the country in his speech at a meeting of the Presidium of the Provisional People's Committee of North Korea. After that he took government steps for the recuperation and relaxation systems. Consequently, more than ten sanatoriums and rest homes began their service in April 1947. The systems were enforced without interruption even in the period of the Fatherland Liberation War (June 1950-July 1953). On February 5, 1951, Kim Il Sung gave an instruction on restoring the war-destroyed rest homes and sanatoriums and running them on a normal basis. As a result night sanatoriums and frontline sanatoriums appeared at factories, collieries and mines and frontline units. Even in the period of the Arduous March, the forced march when the country was in hard time, leader Kim Jong Il took measures to build more rest homes and sanatoriums on the scenic spots of the country. Today people in the DPRK enjoy the state benefit at those rest homes and sanatoriums under the warm care of supreme leader Kim Jong Un. |
