Leader Kim Jong Il made sure that the Pyongyang summit was provided and the June 15 joint declaration was adopted and published, a historic event which brought an epochal turn in improving the north-south relations and carrying out the cause of national reunification, the statement said, and went on:

The publication of the joint declaration made it possible for the north and the south to defuse the distrust and confrontation which had lasted for more than half a century and greet a new era of advancing toward reconciliation, unity and reunification by the concerted efforts of the Koreans.

The key to paving a wide avenue to independent reunification is to defuse the danger of war and create a peaceful environment on the Korean peninsula, halt the confrontation of social systems aimed at inciting distrust and conflict between the north and the south and conduct brisk dialogue, negotiations, contact and exchange.

The General Association of Koreans in China and all the Koreans in China will make every possible effort to greet with splendor the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation as a grand festival of the nation to go down in history.
