Battle on Mt. Songak

Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- Mt. Songak, located in the north of Kaesong City, the DPRK, is no more than 490 meters high above the sea level but is a strategic and tactical point as it sits near the Pyongyang-Seoul road and the road reaching to the central part of Korea. In the mountain, a unit of the Korean People's Security Forces (KPSF) repulsed a series of armed attacks made by the south Korean puppet army in Juche 38 (1949). Korea was liberated from the Japanese colonial rule on August 15, 1945, but it was divided into the north and the south due to the U.S. military occupation of south Korea. At that time, the puppet army of Syngman Rhee had committed military provocations against the north in the area of Mt. Songak in a bid to unleash a war against the DPRK. In the battle on the mountain, the KPSF unit killed and captured nearly 1 000 enemies and destroyed and seized a large number of combat and technical equipment. It is a historical lesson drawn from the battle on the Mt. Songak that the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean puppets will meet only death if they dare provoke the DPRK. |
