S. Korean Body Launches Million-Signature Campaign

Pyongyang, July 9 (KCNA) -- The Joint Measure Committee of Pusan Citizens for Defending Jongyojo (teachers union) held a meeting outside the Pusan City Educational Office on July 7 to declare a million-signature campaign, according to the south Korean internet paper Voice of People. It groups 67 civic and social organizations including the Pusan Association of Women's Organizations, the Pusan Environment Movement Association and the Pusan Solidarity for Defending Democracy.

In a declaration the body said that the history of Jongyojo is the one in which it has worked to give right education.

However, the "Constitutional Court" and the Supreme Court are intensifying the suppression by outlawing Jongyojo, the declaration said, and went on:

Jongyojo is now struggling against the regime's moves to stifle it and educational policy. This is the people's hope for right education.
