World Population Day Marked in DPRK
Pyongyang, July 13 (KCNA) -- Diverse events took place in the DPRK to mark World Population Day (July 11).

The theme for the 2015 World Population Day presented by UNFPA is "Vulnerable Populations in Emergencies".

On Monday there was a seminar on reproduction health (RH) services in emergencies at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Club, attended by officials concerned and representatives and staff members of international agencies and foreign embassies here.

Sathya Narayana Kundur, officer-in-charge of UNFPA to DPRK, noted at the seminar that the DPRK government has made sincere efforts to cope with disasters after establishing the State Emergency Disaster Committee.

He said UNFPA would further improve preparatory works to cope with disaster in close cooperation with the DPRK government.

The seminar dealt with service activities for RH during and after emergencies as well as management of medical supplies necessary for RH in emergencies.

Local media carried articles on the day while the DPRK Population Center released a special issue of Population Newsletter.

Yang Song Il, section chief of the Center, told KCNA that in the country big efforts have been made for establishing the system of giving services for RH in disaster-stricken areas.

International agencies, including UNFPA, UNICEF and WHO, rendered lots of assistance to the DPRK government in its effort to cope with flood damage and other natural disasters, he said.

A similar seminar is to take place in Kangwon Province of the country on July 15.
