S. Korean Civic Organizations Oppose Building of Jeju Naval Base

Pyongyang, August 7 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations of south Korea including the Kangjong Village Society, the All-People Measure Committee for Checking Jeju Military Base and Making Jeju Island Peaceful Island and the Measure Committee for Checking Building of Jeju Naval Base issued a joint statement on Aug. 3.

The statement recalled that 3 000 days have passed since inhabitants in Kangjong village, Sogwipho City, Jeju Province started the action in protest against the building of Jeju naval base.

It denounced the regime for making desperate efforts to pass the buck for the procrastination of the project to the inhabitants in Kangjong village.

The Jeju naval base construction is quite contrary to peace in Kangjong village, the statement noted, adding that they would carry on their action to turn Jeju Island into a peaceful island.
