Pyongyang, August 8 (KCNA) -- Service Personnel of the Korean People's Army (KPA) participating in the red flag relay arrived in South Phyongan Province via Jagang and North Phyongan provinces after starting from the area of Mt. Paektu to mark the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation. They visited the Kosanjin and Kumchon revolutionary sites associated with giant footprints of the peerlessly great persons of Mt. Paektu. They visited a monument to the feats performed by 14 fighters in the self-blasting spirit. They met with fighter pilots who performed heroic exploits in the operation to ensure the successful launch of satellite Kwangmyongsong-2. They arrived at the historic site associated with the history of the Fatherland Liberation War on Saturday. The site is the place where the supreme command of the Korean People's Army was located from January, Juche 40 (1951) to July, Juche 42 (1953). There President Kim Il Sung defeated the U.S. imperialists who boasted of being the "strongest" in the world and defended the destiny of the country and the sovereignty of the nation. That day service personnel held a meeting there to learn about the greatness of the President and leader Kim Jong Il. Ri Chang Gil, chairman of the KPA Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, said in his speech that all the service personnel should become staunch defenders of the country strong in idea and faith with an unshakable will that they are sure to win in the confrontation with the U.S. as they are led by Marshal Kim Jong Un. A congratulatory poem "Country extends congratulations to the young vanguard of the Paektusan army!" was recited to be followed by choruses "Long Live Generalissimo Kim Il Sung" and "Song of the Korean People's Army". The performers called for greeting a new day of eternal victory by carrying on the march started from Mt. Paektu to the end, holding Kim Jong Un, illustrious brilliant commander, in high esteem. At the end of the meeting service personnel went round the site. On the same day they visited the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mt. Taesong. They laid bouquets before the bust of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk and paid tribute to her. |
