It was on August 25, Juche 49 (1960) that he began his guidance over the armed forces of the DPRK with inspection of the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Tank Division of the Korean People's Army.

At that time he underscored the need to train all the servicepersons into those strong in idea and faith and prepared politically and ideologically and in military technique, under the slogan "Let us defend with our very lives the Party Central Committee headed by the respected Comrade Kim Il Sung!"

Since then, he had made a ceaseless journey of inspection to the units of the KPA, always finding himself among the servicepersons.

In 2010 alone he inspected many military units, encouraging the servicepersons in trainings.

In December 2011, the last period of his life, he guided the firepower strike drill of a KPA combined unit and praised its soldiers for having kept themselves in full readiness to impregnably defend the socialist country.

Thanks to his guidance, the DPRK servicepersons have become the main force of the Songun revolution that is now playing the key role both in socialist construction and national defence.
