Rodong Sinmun Calls upon U.S. to Pay Heed to World Public Opinion

Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- Global Post, a U.S. internet paper, recently conveyed news that about 100 politicians of the U.S., Japan, Europe, south Korea and other countries adopted "a peace declaration" at an international meeting. The keynote of the declaration signed by former U.S. Vice-President Mondale, former Japanese Prime Minister Hatoyama and others is that the U.S., Japan and south Korea should take step for defusing tension and convert the instable armistice system into a peace one, to begin with, in order to ensure peace on the Korean Peninsula. Rodong Sinmun Friday in an article says this proves that the world public opinion is asserting that the U.S. should make a switchover in its foreign policy for aggression. The U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK is the source that turned the Korean Peninsula into the biggest hotspot in the world and a basic hurdle in the way of ensuring peace and security there, the article notes, and goes on: The DPRK has so far made proposals for turning the old armistice system into a peace one in order to remove the danger of war and ensure lasting peace on the peninsula, and repeatedly demanded the U.S. respond to them. The U.S. persists in refusing to accept the DPRK's fair and aboveboard peace proposals because they contradict the U.S. foreign policy for aggression. The U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK based on nuclear threat is not workable on the DPRK. Steadfast is the stand of the DPRK to make positive contribution to defending peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Asia. The DPRK will bolster up its nuclear deterrence for self-defense as long as the U.S. persists in its hostile policy toward the former. The U.S. would be well advised to pay heed to the world public opinion and make a policy switchover in a bold way, though belatedly. |
