This reflected the will and stand of both sides to prevent armed conflicts between the north and the south, defuse tension and promote the development of the inter-Korean relations.

The north and the south sat face to face in a serious crisis, sympathized with the gravity of the situation and had an exhaustive discussion, reaching an agreement on common tasks. This resulted in opening a landmark phase in improving the inter-Korean relations. This was the significance of the contact.

The whole course of the urgent contact and its outcome proved once again that there is noting impossible when they settle all issues arising in the inter-Korean relations in the spirit of By Our Nation Itself.

The north and south authorities have heavy responsibilities to make a new history of the inter-Korean relations. The north and the south should regard the agreement as a sacred commitment to the nation and positively opt for implementing it.

Whether the agreement reached at the urgent contact remains a dead paper or yields rich results depends on what stand and attitude both sides take towards the joint press release and how they implement it.
