Rodong Sinmun Calls for Improving North-South Relations
|

Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- It is the stand of the DPRK to improve the inter-Korean relations through dialogue and cooperation, not confrontation, and pave the road of peace and prosperity of the nation, says Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in an article. It goes on: The north and the south should advance the inter-Korean relations in the constructive direction of aspiring after reunification as expected and wished by all Koreans, not confined to overcoming the extreme crisis. The acute confrontation between the north and the south is not defused of itself with the passage of time. They should put a definite end to the vicious cycle of repetition of crisis by their concerted efforts. It is important to sincerely honor the north-south agreement to this end. The implementation of the above-said agreement is a way of defusing the danger of a war on the Korean Peninsula and achieving the independent reunification, peace and prosperity through national reconciliation and unity. No one has the right to violate the north-south agreement which they promised to implement before the nation. Whether the inter-Korean relations are repaired or not entirely depends on what attitude the north and the south take to settle issues. Efforts to mend the inter-Korean relations and confrontation can never go together. There can be no atmosphere of improving the inter-Korean relations as long as provocations and mud-slinging at the other side are going on because they will only stoke contradiction and antagonism. When such practices reach their height, they cannot but lead to a war between the north and the south. This is the lesson drawn by all Koreans once again from the recent crisis. The north and the south should solve issues in conformity with wishes and interests common to the nation, aware that they are responsible for settling the issues of the nation and reunification, and thus make pooling efforts in the spirit of By Our Nation Itself a trend of the history of the nation. |
