The Philippines Solidarity Committee for Peace and Reunification in the Korean Peninsula in a statement on Aug. 21 called upon all the Korean people in the north and the south and overseas to make positive efforts for defusing the tension in the peninsula and averting a war.

The situation of the Korean Peninsula has continuously worsened since the country was divided by the U.S. and its troops militarily occupied south Korea, the statement said, and went on:

Therefore, we assert that the U.S. troops should be withdrawn from south Korea and war moves be stopped in the Korean Peninsula and the region.

Saber Ballul, head of the Department of the Political Faculty of the University of Damascus of Syria, in his statement on August 25 said the DPRK is a powerful country no one dares provoke.

He went on:

The south Korean authorities should bear in mind that the Korean people are the heroic people with strong will to resolutely smash the moves of provokers who infringe upon the sovereignty and dignity of the country.

The U.S. is trying to stifle the DPRK, being oblivious of the lesson drawn in the last Korean War and this is the height of foolishness.
