After Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule, Kim Il Sung paid deep attention to instituting the name of the Republic soon to be founded.

He stressed that the name of the country should be instituted in keeping with its specific conditions, adding the main object and immediate task of the Korean revolution should be considered in the institution.

He saw to it that the Juche character and the popular character were vividly reflected in the name of the country.

He also showed deep care for the institution of the national flag.

In early February Juche 37 (1948) he examined the design of the national flag and indicated the fundamental orientation of its designing, personally drawing the design.

And he said that the national flag should symbolize the bravery and heroism of the Korean people always advancing toward victory.

Then he guided the work to institute the national emblem, stressing that the emblem should mirror the unity of the broad masses of people based on the worker-peasant alliance as well as the nation's future development of modern industry and advanced agriculture.

Under such deep care and guidance of Kim Il Sung, the name of the country and its national flag and emblem came to being, displaying the spirit of Korea.
