Person Convicted of Spy Case during Military Dictatorial Rule Acquitted in S. Korea

| Pyongyang, September 18 (KCNA) -- The Seoul High Court gave Ri Ju Gwang a verdict of not guilty on Sept. 16, according to Voice of People, an internet paper of south Korea. Ri was convicted of "a spy case" by the Chun Doo Hwan military dictatorial forces. Early in the 1980s the Security Command arrested Ri, a Korean student in Japan who came to south Korea to study, on the suspicion that "he attempted to overthrow the state" after getting in touch with the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan and receiving an instruction from the north. The fascist dictatorial forces sentenced him to 15 years in jail and to the same term of suspension of qualifications in 1983. The truth about the conspiratorial case has been probed several decades since then and a verdict of not guilty was given to Ri. |
