Defuse of Confrontation Is Prerequisite for Solving North-South Relations: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, September 25 (KCNA) -- It is necessary to defuse confrontation, to begin with, in order to mend the inter-Korean relations and achieve the reunification of the country, says Rodong Sinmun Friday in an article. The issue of the north-south relations, in essence, represents their task of achieving reconciliation and unity as the one and the same nation, the article says, and goes on: The state of confrontation has fostered discord and mistrust within the nation and checked the reconciliation, unity and reunification of the north and the south. As proven by the past history of the north-south relations, the confrontation between the fellow countrymen will only entail a war. It is lamentable that the Korean nation has not yet achieved the reunification. It is all the more intolerable that the escalation of confrontation leads to an increase in the danger of a war. The confrontational policy of antagonizing the fellow countrymen is a factor of inciting political and military confrontation between the north and the south. Only when a fundamental change is brought about in the confrontational policy, would it be possible to defuse the political and military confrontation. Even though a good agreement for detente and the improvement of the north-south ties was reached at the north-south high-level urgent contact, confrontational racket against the fellow countrymen is going on in south Korea. It is needless to say that the anti-DPRK "human rights" racket and leaflets scattering operations are serious politically-motivated provocations denying and slandering the dignity and social system of the dialogue partner and escalating mistrust and confrontation between the north and the south. There can be no proper dialogue between the north and the south as long as confrontational aim is sought. Defuse of confrontation only will guarantee an advance in the north-south relations and a bright future of the nation. |
