Big Efforts Paid to Marine Protection in DPRK
Pyongyang, September 25 (KCNA) -- The protection of marine environment is gaining momentum in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

In this regard, Pae Nam Un, director of the Central Marine Protection Center under the Maritime Administration, said:

The center was founded in Juche 100 (2011), as part of national efforts to prevent and remove pollution caused by ships in territorial waters.

In case of accidental pollution, the center is to play the role of tapping relevant organs and enterprises for removal of pollution, supervising it and investigating and estimating damage.

It takes control over the protection of marine environment as required by national laws and regulations in accordance with international conventions.

It also suggests taking national measures to cope with negative influence of bilge water and waste over marine environment.

In the past, it successfully removed oil slick caused by accidental leaks from vessels of China, Panama and other countries.

Meanwhile, it expands cooperation with international environmental bodies.
