Pyongyang, October 3 (KCNA) -- An event took place at the Mausoleum of King Tangun in Kangdong County, Pyongyang, on Saturday to mark the Foundation Day of Korea (October 3, the birth anniversary of King Tangun). Tangun is the ancestral father of the Korean nation, who built Ancient Korea (early 30th century B.C.-108 B.C.), the first state in the East, with Pyongyang as its capital. In the past the history of Ancient Korea was distorted by flunkeys and Japanese reptile historians and Tangun had been regarded as a mythical being. However, King Tangun was ascertained on a scientific basis to be a real being born more than 5,000 years ago, thanks to the energetic guidance of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il. When his remains were discovered in Kangdong County in Juche 82 (1993), Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il made sure that his mausoleum was built into a magnificent one as befitting that of the homogenous Korean nation's ancestral father. They organized the King Tangun's Mausoleum Reconstruction Committee and energetically guided the reconstruction of the mausoleum. As a result, the mausoleum covering a total area of 45 hectares was reconstructed as a national treasure and a precious cultural wealth in less than one year. Since then, the Korean people have gathered at the mausoleum every year to hold an event celebrating the Foundation Day of Korea, wishing that the reunification of Korea, their cherished desire, would be realized at an early date. |
