The formation of the DIU, the first vanguard organization of young revolutionaries, was a starting point for founding a Juche-type party.

The programme of the DIU served as a basis for the programme of the Workers' Party of Korea and its principle of independence as the principle of the party building and activities. And its members played a key role in founding the party.

With this principle of independence, the Korean people could successfully carry out the building of new Korea after the country's liberation from Japan's colonial rule and lead the three-year war, the postwar rehabilitation, the social revolution of two stages and the socialist construction to victory.

The WPK had further developed into a revolutionary party of Juche under the guidance of leader Kim Jong Il.

Kim Jong Il in his lifetime authored such celebrated works as "The Workers' Party of Korea Is a Juche-Type Revolutionary Party Which Inherited the Glorious Tradition of the DIU" and "The Workers' Party of Korea Is the Party of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung", which served as guidelines for the WPK.

The WPK has now entered a new turning point of its development under the guidance of supreme leader Kim Jong Un, who is creditably carrying forward Kim Il Sung's and Kim Jong Il's idea and cause of building a Juche-based party.

At the 4th WPK Conference, Kim Jong Un formulated Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism as the eternal guiding idea of the WPK and the Korean revolution and proclaimed the modeling of the whole society on Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism as the supreme programme of the WPK.
