The polymer can absorb water weighing 500-800 times heavier than its mass.

According to Rim Yong Son, a department head of the University, the introduction of newly-developed polymer has shown good results.

When fertilizer coated with this polymer is put on paddy and non-paddy fields, it helps keep wetness in soil for 10-15 days and heighten the effect of fertilizer. It can also raise the rate of rooting twice in planting trees when their roots are covered with the polymer.

The researchers are now working hard to expand the sphere of its application.
